Dr. Cosmas Zavazava

Cosmas Zavazava assumed the role of Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on January 1, 2023.

With an impressive career spanning over 30 years in the field of telecommunications, including more than 20 years within the Development Sector of ITU, Dr. Zavazava has consistently championed and successfully executed impactful information and communication technology projects across the globe.

Prior to his appointment as BDT Director, Dr. Zavazava held the position of ITU’s Chief of Partnerships for Digital Development from 2019 to 2022. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing development-oriented projects, cultivating strategic partnerships, and mobilizing resources. Notably, he spearheaded the launch of new initiatives that significantly enhanced the involvement of industry, private-sector entities, and academia in the work of ITU.
