On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, An-Najah National University proudly inaugurated the First International Conference & Expo on Innovation and Sustainability in Engineering & Technology, themed “The Future of Engineering & Technology Education.” This remarkable event, organized by the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology in collaboration with the Engineers Association – Jerusalem Center, attracted a distinguished group of international experts, successful entrepreneurs, and professionals from various engineering and technology disciplines, with the aim of fostering cooperation, sharing ideas, and exchanging cutting-edge technical knowledge in the engineering and technology sectors.

The grand opening ceremony took place at Prince Turki Bin Abdul Aziz Theater, located within An-Najah University’s New Campus. Esteemed guests included His Excellency Dr. Ishaq Sidr, Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, Dr. Nadia Habash, Head of the Engineers Syndicate – Jerusalem Center, Dr. Sami Hijjawi, Mayor of Nablus, Eng. Samer Musa, Director General of Technical Education, representing His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Alaa Hijazi, Director of the Business Sector at Palestine Telecommunications (Paltel) Group, Dr. Abdul Salam Al-Khayyat, Vice President for Academic Affairs at An-Najah, along with the University’s faculty and staff members, enthusiastic students, and representatives from ministries, institutions, local and national bodies, and companies.

Leading the opening session was Prof. Sameer Abu-Eisheh, President of the conference, who warmly welcomed the distinguished attendees and commended the fruitful partnership with the Engineers Association. He emphasized that hosting this conference signifies a significant addition to An-Najah National University’s portfolio of events, shedding light on the latest engineering innovations and technologies. The conference offered a unique opportunity for expert engineers and professionals from Palestine and around the world to exchange knowledge, while reinforcing the Faculty of Engineering’s commitment to collaboration with various institutions and relevant authorities in order to facilitate knowledge transfer, foster community service, and strengthen ties with the industrial sector. These efforts aim to promote greater cooperation and joint interaction to support the educational process and benefit students.

The conference program encompassed a wide range of topics related to engineering, technology, and sustainability. Distinguished speakers explored recent advancements in artificial intelligence, e-commerce, augmented reality, and big data, providing valuable insights and global best practices. Attendees also had the privilege of participating in scientific lectures, educational sessions, and workshops dedicated to innovative technological developments and applications in engineering, information technology, and sustainability. The conference featured 12 keynote speakers, and a total of 94 scientific papers were submitted, out of which 64 were accepted. Researchers, including talented students, contributed to the research from 5 countries, including 6 Arab countries and 8 foreign countries.

The First International Conference & Expo on Innovation and Sustainability in Engineering & Technology will span two days, from June 14 to June 15, 2023. The second day of the conference will highlight a special gathering to share success stories of the University’s pioneering graduates. Concurrently, the An-Najah Engineering and Technology Exhibition, “Modernity in Building Technology,” will be held from July 10 to July 12. This exhibition will focus on the construction sector, showcasing modern construction systems, materials, implementation techniques, and maintenance practices.
